There is a Zen to Whistler life that can enlighten even the hardest hearts. So it’s only natural that we offer Yoga as part of The Core experience.

Welcome to Core Yoga

A flowing series of moves that warms up, stretches, and tones every major muscle group in the body. Done with a powerful breathing technique shown to improve respiratory function, and a special rhythmic beat that helps calm and focus the mind, it’s a total fitness routine with a difference!

One of the primary sources of our yoga knowledge is the Ashtanga vinyasa system. This style, also known as Power yoga, stretches and opens the body in a well-rounded, organized and safe manner.

Van Powell
Van is a Registered Psychiatric Nurse who finished at the top of his class and served as valedictorian before going on to specialize in addictions treatment and emergency psychiatric assessments.

He combines his clinical experience of western medicine with his practical knowledge of eastern techniques into a unique and creative approach to health and fitness.

For 3 years he lived in Japan studying martial arts, yoga and meditation, and he has been to India twice for intensive studies with several of the world’s top Ayurvedic physicians.

He has been practicing yoga for almost thirty years and was the first to bring Ashtanga yoga workshops to British Columbia.

Known for his light-hearted, realistic approach to serious issues, Van says, “I’ve been there - from major sports injuries to weight loss, from quitting smoking to dealing with chronic illness - so I know first-hand how difficult the challenges are. And I also know how to beat them.”

Since founding Mind-Body Fitness in 1996, he has worked with a broad range of clients seeking optimal health and performance, including the Canadian National Snowboard Team, professional athletes and coaches, and major corporations such as VISA and Intrawest.

Vinyasa at the Core

Instructor Julia Tottle teaches primarily through a flowing Vinyasa style, incorporating other yoga lineages to keep her classes fun and free flowing.
